Earlier this week, Apple-centric sites and blogs proposed the possibility that Apple’s next iPad won’t have a home button. The imagery accompanying Apple’s press invitations seemed to suggest that.
“The picture above is the iPad 3 digitizer,” says RepairLabs.“ This part controls the iPad’s touch function, as well as includes your front glass. As you can see from our images, not much has changed in the look of your iPad.”
“With the back housing in hand, and now with this piece, we can confirm your iPad will look a lot like the iPad 2, just that 1mm thicker. The picture above also proves that we will have the home button on the iPad 3, contrary to some reports that came out yesterday,” says the repair shop. “We also can see that Apple is planning to have both black and white models of the iPad 3, which is not surprising.”
The digitizer connection indicates a difference between the iPad 3 and the iPad 2 on the inside - “the logic board will be different, just as we surmised by looking at the back housing,” says RepairLabs.
The company adds that “the digitizer proves that Apple has not made any radical form changes to your favorite device.”
Apple is holding a special event next week, Wednesday, March 7, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California.
The invitations send out to select members of the media indicate that the event will revolve around a new version of the iPad, possibly with a Retina display, LTE networking, a higher-resolution camera, and other enhancements.
