14-Inch MacBook Air Possibly Headed to China | Technology News

Sources from the upstream supply chain in Asia are saying that Apple is considering the introduction of a 14-inch MacBook Air model to satisfy demand for this particular notebook configuration in the Far East.

The usually well-connected industry sources from Asia are telling DigiTimes that Apple may be "considering" the release of a new MacBook Air equipped with a 14-inch display, and that it "may start mass production in the near future to fully enter the Asia PC market.”

The publication has a hit-and-miss track record on Apple rumors, but its sources have often provided accurate detail regarding Apple’s next move.

These people are now saying that Asia has a 35-40% fondness of 14-inch screens, whereas Western countries prefer 15-inchers.

Which is why there’s also a rumor floating around about a 15-inch MacBook Air. Perhaps Apple will introduce both, and prioritize shipments accordingly.

The sources justified their projections noting that “Apple is currently turning its targets from North America and Europe, to Asia and is eyeing the China market as its major market since the company still has strong potential in the country,” according to the Asian trade publication.

Indeed, Apple would directly confirm plans to take on this market by launching a product that caters to China's inhabitants more than anywhere else in the world.

Of course, there’s also the possibility that once Apple releases this alleged 14-inch Air everyone will want one. It wouldn’t be the first time Apple rolled out a product no one thought they wanted, yet still went out and bought it.

The MacBook Air is by far the most attractive of all Macintosh computers. Apple shipped 5.2 million Macs during its last reported quarter (both portable, and desktop systems) - a 26 percent unit increase over the year-ago quarter. The MacBook Air alone is responsible for a good chunk of these numbers.
